The Wells
A trio of stalk-like structures release a fine mist when activated by the turn of pinwheels, offering music festival goers a chance interaction and refreshing respite between dance floors.
Curated by Amanda Wright (founder of Splore), and commissioned by ACL, The Wells was one of nine works at the Auckland City Limits Music festival, alongside Judy Darragh, 2017 Venice Biennale representative Lisa Reihana, Jeff Thompson, Lou Purvis and Aaron McConchie.
A crowd of 25,000 attended the inaugural festival at Western Springs Park, with headline acts such as Kendrick Lamar, The National, LadyHawke, Fat Freddie’s Drop, Cold War Kids and Modest Mouse.
The Wells' central balls were custom designed and 3d printed at Fabriko, the irrigation system designed with the help from staff at The Irrigation Warehouse in Christchurch, and the interactivity programmed through arduino.
